The 2024 climate bonus has now been finalised and brings with it an increase compared to the previous year. But not everyone in Vienna will get the same amount.
Everyone is talking about it again, the climate bonus is coming back, but there are also further changes this year. The most important of these is that the basic and maximum amounts have been raised. Where the range in 2023 was only from 110 to 220 euros, this year it is 145 to 290 euros, the Austrian Press reported yesterday.
But there are also differences in Vienna: in 16 Viennese districts, you get significantly less than in the others. It is not clear who gets more and who gets less. For example, if you live in Wundtgasse in Liesing, the 23rd district, you get 50 euros more than your neighbours on the other side of the street. They would therefore have better public transport connections and therefore only receive 145 euros.
2 underground stations and category 1
It is also interesting to note that Floridsdorf, which not only has an underground station but also an S-Bahn station, also falls into category two of the climate bonus. So it remains the case that the suburbs are better off, with the exception of the districts of Favoriten, Penzing and Hernals. It is interesting to note, however, that Hernals, the 17th district, only has two underground stations on the U6 line. These are also located right on the border with the neighbouring district of Josefstadt. Nevertheless, Hernals is in category one and therefore receives the lowest bonus.
The 2024 climate bonus in Vienna has been set and involves an increase compared to the previous year
The amount of the bonus depends on where you live, with people in districts with a good public transport network receiving less than those who rely on their car.
There are significant differences in the bonus payout in 16 Viennese districts, with even neighbouring streets receiving different amounts.
